A Classically Personal Celebration | Julianne and Nick

Catholic wedding at University of Minnesota

Julianne and Nick had a truly timeless wedding. The venue, what they wore, and their decor – it was all so beautifully classic. Nothing that they did was overly trendy, everything was gorgeous now, and will continue to be gorgeous for years to come. What I loved even more than just the sheer beauty of their wedding day was the way that they balanced tradition with personality in a seemingly effortless way. Sometimes you see couples get lost in trying to do a wedding the “correct way,” and their wedding ends up being exactly what you’d expect of a typical wedding, but it doesn’t feel like “them.” That was not the case with Julianne and Nick; everything about their day was so classy and yet so absolutely “them.”

The entire day was peppered with pieces of their personality, their family history, and their relationship – which made it all the more beautiful and fun to be a part of. Their ceremony at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church was stunning. The building was full of color and life, and their ceremony was, too. It was special to step into their familial values in such a powerful and intentional way. Shortly after we were able to step into a huge part of Julianne and Nick’s relationship at the University of Minnesota. As U of M alumni, that campus is home to many memories they have together and will always hold a huge place in their heart. Taking pictures of them there was sentimental in the best way. It’s so special to go back to a place that helped mold them, individually and together, into the people they are today. As if that wasn’t special enough, Goldy the Gopher also made a surprise appearance at their reception! Which is not only every Gopher’s dream, but also something I’ve never seen before! It was SO fun. The best surprise I’ve ever witnessed at a reception.

But out of all the beautiful, memorable, and unique aspects of their wedding day – Julianne and Nick both agree that their first look was their favorite part. They were both incredibly excited and anxious to see each other, and ultimately, get married. To have that moment of stillness, just the two of them, before they were standing up on the altar before all of their more cherished family and friends, was priceless. Being able to take it all in together, even for just a moment, was something they will never forget and forever cherish. This is what makes Julianne and Nick’s love so beautiful and genuine. Their love is the kind of love that is just as real in a moment of peace together in an empty church as it is draped in satin and pearls in front of everyone they know. Congratulations you two, it was an honor to capture memories on your special day. I have no doubt that your life will forever be filled with love, laughter, and happiness.

A Lifelong Love | Laura & Michael

Laura and Michael posing in front of Minneapolis skylineTake a quick second to prepare yourself to be wow’d by Laura and Michael’s story. Normally when we hear that a couple has known each other for a long time, we think high school sweethearts. When we hear that a couple has been together since middle school, we can barely believe it. When a couple has known each other since they were in kindergarten – our hearts are just completely melted. This couple is Laura and Michael. They met in kindergarten and had always been awesome friends. They finally started dating their senior year of high school, and on their wedding day, they had been together for a total of 10 years. I feel no hesitation in saying that these two lovebirds are each other’s best friends and their perfect match.

There is something really special about being completely loved and understood by someone that has known you your whole life (aside from your family). These people have seen your absolutely best, your worst, and all of the awkward stages in between – and yet they still choose to be by your side. I see this sense of complete comfort and confidence between Laura and Michael in their relationship. They know each other deeply – the good, bad, and everything in between – they have fully embraced this reality, and chosen to love every part of each other and their long relationship together. It’s beautiful. And their love was so clearly the highlight of their beautiful wedding day.

They had a classically stunning Twin Cities wedding, starting at the Basilica of St. Mary and ending at the Nicollet Island Pavilion. Those two venues and the cityscapes that came with were enough on their own to create a gorgeous wedding, but Laura went above and beyond with amazing details and impeccable style (see pictures for proof!). It was truly a day to remember, and Laura and Michael are a couple to remember as well. Congrats you two, I’m excited for you to continue living your fullest live by each other’s side!

Full Hearts on a Family Focused Day | Sally and Dan

Family centered Iowa wedding Sally and Dan’s amazing wedding was proof that you don’t need a lot of people to throw a party or have a good time. Their small, but stunning wedding was one for the books. I mean this for a million different reasons, but there are a couple that really stood out to me, that I can’t help but share with you.

This was absolutely the most family oriented wedding I have ever attended. The entire wedding party was composed of Sally and Dan’s children and grandchildren. Which was not only beautiful and adorable, but also speaks a lot to who Sally and Dan are people. They are super in love with each other, but are absolutely in love with both of their families as well. They are care so much about others that even on a day where they had an excuse to make it all about them, they decided to make it about everyone else instead.

Their love and their outward affection towards each other and their awesome family was the most magical part of their wedding day. They knew that the decorations and details (while they still turned out beautiful) were not the most important aspect of the day. They focused on the people present and they were present every moment of the day – and it was perfect. They spent time with their loved ones, laughed, ate, made memories, and shut the dance floor down. If that isn’t the definition of a dream wedding, I don’t know what is. Congratulations Sally and Dan! I love your love, your family, and your story. It was a joy to capture your big day!

Hot Weather, Perfect Wedding | Annie & Tyler

Windblown summer wedding

Simply put, Annie and Tyler are just happy people who are super in love with each other. They’re the kind of people that you could throw obstacles at all day, but as long as they have each other, they’d be content. I know this to be true because on their wedding day, it kind of happened. For starters, they got married on a hot day, I mean really hot. Hot like I was sweating and drinking tons of water and worrying about the heat for them. But whenever I asked them how they were doing and feeling, they would both respond, “hot,” but with a smile on their face, and leave it at that. No complaints, no high maintenance requests. They simply acknowledged the obvious and went on enjoying their special day.

As if the heat wasn’t enough, Annie also lost her voice due to bad allergies. Although no one dreams to lose their voice on their wedding day, Annie somehow was able to laugh it off and turn it into an adorable, funny situation. I’m telling you all of these “not perfect” moments because Annie & Tyler’s wedding was perfect anyway – because they allowed it to be. Even though Annie and Tyler went all out planning their details and decorations (which looked amazing), they didn’t stress about any of it on the actual day of the wedding. Even though it was crazy hot and Annie lost her voice, they didn’t let that distract them from the true meaning and beauty of their wedding day – they fully embraced every moment regardless if it was how they planned it to be or not.

People like Annie and Tyler are rare and wonderful. I truly mean that. They were easy going, relaxed, fun, and crazy in love. In my opinion, they cracked the wedding code. They didn’t expect or demand perfect, they focused on the important stuff – each other, their awesome families and friends, enjoying their unbelievable 12-person band, breaking it down on the dance floor, and cherishing all the special moments. Annie and Tyler, you were our dream clients on your wedding day, we all have a little bit to learn from your approach to life and love. Congrats again!

A Perfect Match | Brooke & Aaron

Van Dusen Mansion Wedding

There were so many wonderful and unique things about Brooke & Aaron’s wedding, it’s hard to know where to start. There was little magical moment after magical moment all day. It started right away in the morning when the forecast – supposed to be rainy – turned out to be the sunniest, most perfect summer day. Weather aside, the wedding itself was stunning. The newly remodeled Van Busen Mansion was one of the most gorgeous mansions I have ever shot in before. It shined during the day and continued at night with a courtyard strung carefully with hanging lights. It was truly a vision, and so was Brooke. Everyone thought so, but the interaction between her and her father was really special. The first look that these two shared was one of the most emotional and memorable I have witnessed between a father and a daughter (see pictures below for proof). It was obvious how much he loved and cherished her – so you know he wouldn’t give her away to just anyone. It must have been clear, to him especially, that Aaron is not only good for Brooke, but perfect for her.

We noticed this, too. Brooke and Aaron are just such a perfect fit for each other. Their relationship has such ease about it – it’s hard to describe. Throughout the entire day they were both so relaxed, calm, and unworried by small details. They were more concerned about their guests having a good time than whether or not their day went “perfect.” However, you could tell there was a special peace they found in each other whenever they were able to steal a second alone. When we were taking couple pictures, it was like the cameras weren’t even there. Brooke and Aaron were just happy to together, and nothing else really mattered. Their love is natural and beautiful.

Brooke and Aaron’s amazing ability to love each other well is special, and it seems like they may have learned it from their parents. We couldn’t help but notice that both sets were happily married and obviously still in love. Which is rare. It was beautiful to see so many different relationships at different stages in life, all still going strong. These awesome families did an outstanding job raising their children and setting a good example for marriage, it makes sense that the two ended up together. I have no doubt that Brooke and Aaron will do the same in their future. I could go on forever, but ultimately, it was a beautiful day of celebrating true love and families being joined together. I only foresee one conflict in their future – will their children be Vikings or Packers fans? 🙂 Congrats again Brooke and Aaron! Keep spreading your infectious love.
