A Perfect Match | Brooke & Aaron

Van Dusen Mansion Wedding

There were so many wonderful and unique things about Brooke & Aaron’s wedding, it’s hard to know where to start. There was little magical moment after magical moment all day. It started right away in the morning when the forecast – supposed to be rainy – turned out to be the sunniest, most perfect summer day. Weather aside, the wedding itself was stunning. The newly remodeled Van Busen Mansion was one of the most gorgeous mansions I have ever shot in before. It shined during the day and continued at night with a courtyard strung carefully with hanging lights. It was truly a vision, and so was Brooke. Everyone thought so, but the interaction between her and her father was really special. The first look that these two shared was one of the most emotional and memorable I have witnessed between a father and a daughter (see pictures below for proof). It was obvious how much he loved and cherished her – so you know he wouldn’t give her away to just anyone. It must have been clear, to him especially, that Aaron is not only good for Brooke, but perfect for her.

We noticed this, too. Brooke and Aaron are just such a perfect fit for each other. Their relationship has such ease about it – it’s hard to describe. Throughout the entire day they were both so relaxed, calm, and unworried by small details. They were more concerned about their guests having a good time than whether or not their day went “perfect.” However, you could tell there was a special peace they found in each other whenever they were able to steal a second alone. When we were taking couple pictures, it was like the cameras weren’t even there. Brooke and Aaron were just happy to together, and nothing else really mattered. Their love is natural and beautiful.

Brooke and Aaron’s amazing ability to love each other well is special, and it seems like they may have learned it from their parents. We couldn’t help but notice that both sets were happily married and obviously still in love. Which is rare. It was beautiful to see so many different relationships at different stages in life, all still going strong. These awesome families did an outstanding job raising their children and setting a good example for marriage, it makes sense that the two ended up together. I have no doubt that Brooke and Aaron will do the same in their future. I could go on forever, but ultimately, it was a beautiful day of celebrating true love and families being joined together. I only foresee one conflict in their future – will their children be Vikings or Packers fans? 🙂 Congrats again Brooke and Aaron! Keep spreading your infectious love.

Love Like Day One | Heidi & Tony

Heidi and Tony kissing through church doorsThe first wedding of the year is always a special one – it’s the start of a new adventure, a new season of love, a new set of amazing couples to get to know, and new wonderful stories to tell. What I’m trying to say is that regardless of the wedding (how beautiful it is, how in the love the couple is, how crazy the guests are, etc.), the first wedding is always memorable. In Heidi and Tony’s case, however, their wedding would be memorable whether it was the first, the last, or happened 20 years ago. They had the kind of love that you just don’t forget.

Heidi and Tony have been together for about five years. When they first met, at an event for Heidi’s Matron of Honor’s wedding, they had an instant connection – one that everyone noticed, and everyone was excited about. The day of their wedding seemed like day one for them all over again – if anything their connection and passion for one another had grown.

Their first look is a perfect example of this, and one of the most beautiful first looks we have ever witnessed. Heidi naturally lights up a room, I swear, her smile literally radiates joy. But for Tony, she lights up his life. When he saw her for the first time on their wedding day, he couldn’t stop letting her know how true this was for him – how beautiful she was, how amazing she was, and how excited he was to marry her. And that same passionate, authentic love continued to shine throughout the entire day.

There was not a single moment that wasn’t full of joy. Heidi and Tony were so obviously in love and so obviously excited to be spending the rest of their lives together that their happiness spread throughout the entire wedding and everyone who was there. So, they celebrated! In a fun loving, St. Patty’s day fashion! It was a celebration indeed, and one that all who were present will remember dearly for a long time.

Heidi and Tony – your relationship is inspiring. I have no doubt your love and passion for one another will only continue to grow (as it has already) for the rest of your lives. It was such a joy to capture your special day, congratulations again!

An Icy Adventure and Inspiring Love | Megan & Ben

cold winter engagement shoot, winter minneapolis engagment, adventurous couple, cold weather pictures

Before I say anything about Megan & Ben’s story and how wonderful they are, I first need to tell you that the day we ventured out together to take these engagement photos was freezing. I’m serious, like 20-degrees-below-zero-with-windchill freezing. How awesome the pictures turned out, even in unfavorable weather conditions, is your first insight into Megan and Ben’s personalities and their relationship. They so joyfully trekked across ice shelves and the frozen Mississippi River, enjoying time together, regardless the circumstance.

Our frozen adventure made me realize that Megan and Ben really cherish every second that they have together. A chance for them to be together is a chance to celebrate, no matter the weather or situation. They are both extremely driven people, who motivate each other to work hard but also motivate each other to take necessary breaks, unplugged from work and outside thoughts, to just focus on each other. I really admire this in them. Witnessing a love like Megan and Ben’s, will always be worth bearing frigid temperatures.

They are truly the perfect pair, in so many ways. They both have similar interests: exploring yummy dinner and drink spots around the cities, tinkering with computers and electronics, being outdoors, and most importantly, the desire to never stop learning. They are alike, but not so much so that they don’t challenge each other – they help each other grow. Megan says that being with Ben helps her to drop the weight of the world off her shoulders. A smile and a hug from him has an amazing (“super” in her eyes) power to make everything better. It is obvious that Ben is willing to go great lengths to bring a smile to Megan’s face. The amazing proposal he planned for her makes that hard to deny. Stayed tuned for their wedding blog to hear more details!

Congratulations Megan and Ben! You two and your loving, adventurous souls are beautiful. Thanks for bearing the freezing temperatures with me! I’m down for round two if you are.

Simply in Love | Rachel & Joe

engagements, fall, love, couple, prettyleaves,
Before I go into detail about Rachel and Joe’s amazing love story and relationship, I feel like I need to address how awesome their engagement shoot was. Rachel and Joe’s engagement session was a picture perfect (literally) example of what a fall engagement photos should look like. Stunning bright yellow leaves covering the trees and the ground around them. The weather was cold enough for a sweater but also warm enough to dress up a little fancy, too. To top it off, they included their sweet dog Emma, who is not only adorable, but wore a scarf! Rachel and Joe made it impossible for this shoot to be anything but amazing.

After two minutes of witnessing Rachel and Joe’s chemistry and one look at their adorable dog, I was sold. But as I continued to learn more about them, I couldn’t help but fall in love with their relationship. I would describe it as powerfully simple. They met at work. It was Rachel’s first job out of college, and Joe helped show her the ropes around the company. Just two months into officially dating, Joe looked at Rachel calmly and said, “Someday I’m going to marry you.” They both knew that it was true. About five years after that, when the couple was vacationing in California, they made what they both knew to be true, official. While at a vineyard taking pictures for Rachel’s fashion blog, Joe suddenly handed the camera off to a friend. Joe walked over to Rachel, with a huge smile on his face, and told her how beautiful she looked. And before Rachel knew it, he was on one knee, with the ring, asking her to spend the rest of her life with him. She had to take a moment to catch her breath and say, “YES!” And before he even had time to put the ring on Rachel’s finger, it started pouring rain. If that isn’t magical, I don’t know what is.

I loved their shoot, I love their story, and I really love that these too know how to do something that many people don’t—keep it simple. They go through life appreciating the little things and enjoying them together. Rachel described their favorite thing to do together, aside from traveling, as spending Friday nights in with their dog Emma, a movie, pizza, and beer or whiskey. These two just get it. They love each other, they love experiencing new things together, they love their sweet dog, they love good food and drinks, and they just simply love doing life together. And I love that. Congrats you two! I am beyond excited for your wedding.
